Jupiter Goliath Grouper Aggregation

September 10–12, 2027

Join American Pro Diving Center for one of Florida's most impressive seasonal underwater experiences—the annual Goliath Grouper aggregation in Jupiter!

Every year, these enormous fish gather around wrecks and reefs along Florida's southeast coast during their spawning season. Seeing multiple massive Goliath Groupers congregating around a wreck is one of the most memorable big-animal encounters you can have while diving in Florida.

We'll spend the weekend diving with Kyalami Charters out of Jupiter, targeting offshore sites known for Goliath Grouper activity during the heart of aggregation season.

Our group will stay at the Hampton Inn & Suites Palm Beach Gardens, with breakfast included each morning.

Big fish. Gulf Stream drift diving. Wrecks and reefs. Four dives. One incredible weekend.

THE WEEKEND

Friday, September 10 — Arrival & Check-In

Travel to Palm Beach Gardens, check into the Hampton Inn & Suites Palm Beach Gardens, get settled, and meet up with the American Pro group.

Friday evening gives everyone time to relax, grab dinner, prepare equipment, and get ready for the weekend's diving.

Saturday, September 11 — Goliath Grouper Diving

Start the morning with breakfast at the hotel before heading to Jupiter to dive with Kyalami Charters.

We'll head offshore for a two-tank charter targeting sites known for Goliath Grouper activity.

September falls within the seasonal spawning aggregation, so Kyalami's captain and crew will select sites offering the best opportunities for encounters based on recent activity, weather, currents, and diving conditions.

After diving, the afternoon and evening are free to relax, explore Jupiter and Palm Beach, enjoy dinner, and spend time with the group.

Sunday, September 12 — More Goliaths & Departure

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before we head back to Jupiter and board Kyalami for another two-tank charter.

We'll have another opportunity to explore Jupiter's wrecks and reefs and hopefully spend more time underwater with these incredible fish.

After Sunday's diving, we'll wrap up our weekend and head home.

Exact charter times and dive sites will be confirmed closer to the trip.

THE GOLIATH GROUPER AGGREGATION

Goliath Groupers can be encountered in Florida throughout the year, but late summer brings something special.

During their spawning season, these enormous fish gather around particular wrecks, reefs, and artificial structures along Florida's Atlantic coast.

Instead of encountering an occasional individual grouper, divers may have the opportunity to see multiple Goliath Groupers gathered around the same site.

Adult Goliath Groupers can grow to several hundred pounds. Watching one cruise past you is impressive. Descending onto a wreck and finding yourself surrounded by them is something else entirely.

Wildlife is unpredictable, so Goliath Grouper sightings and the number of animals encountered can never be guaranteed. That's why we're scheduling this trip during the seasonal aggregation period—to put ourselves in Jupiter at one of the best times of year to experience it.

DIVING WITH KYALAMI

We'll be diving with Kyalami Charters out of Jupiter for both days of offshore diving.

Jupiter is known for its Gulf Stream drift diving, where divers descend together and allow the current to carry them along the reef or wreck while the boat follows the group's surface marker.

Depending on where the groupers are congregating, our dives may include wrecks, artificial reefs, ledges, and natural reef structures.

Our planned diving includes:

  • Two-tank Kyalami charter on Saturday
  • Two-tank Kyalami charter on Sunday
  • Four scheduled offshore dives
  • Goliath Grouper-focused dive-site selection
  • Tanks and weights for scheduled dives
  • Professional Kyalami captain and dive crew
  • American Pro Diving Center group coordination

Specific dive sites will be selected by Kyalami based on Goliath Grouper activity, weather, currents, sea conditions, visibility, diver experience, and other operational considerations.

MORE THAN JUST GROUPERS

The Goliaths may be the reason we're going, but they're certainly not the only reason to dive Jupiter.

South Florida's warm Gulf Stream waters support an incredible variety of marine life.

Depending on the sites and a little luck, we may encounter:

  • Goliath Groupers
  • Sea turtles
  • Reef sharks
  • Nurse sharks
  • Southern stingrays
  • Eagle rays
  • Moray eels
  • Barracuda
  • Large schools of tropical and pelagic fish

Every dive is different, and that's part of what makes Jupiter such an exciting place to dive.

WHO IS THIS TRIP FOR?

This trip is intended for divers who are comfortable with South Florida boat and drift diving.

Compared with our July Key Largo reef weekend, Jupiter can present more challenging conditions, including stronger currents, deeper profiles, and blue-water ascents.

Divers should be comfortable with:

  • Boat diving
  • Drift diving
  • Moderate to potentially strong currents
  • Open-water descents and ascents
  • Maintaining good buoyancy and depth control
  • Staying with the dive group
  • Monitoring gas and no-decompression limits
  • Deploying or following a surface marker buoy

Advanced Open Water certification is recommended and may be required depending on the final dive sites selected by Kyalami.

If you're unsure whether your current experience is appropriate for the trip, talk with the American Pro team. We can help determine what additional diving or training would be beneficial before September.

Divers who haven't been in the water recently should complete a refresher or PADI ReActivate before the trip.

RESPECTING THE GOLIATHS

These are wild animals, and we'll enjoy the aggregation as observers.

Divers should maintain an appropriate distance, avoid chasing or touching the groupers, and never attempt to feed or intentionally alter their behavior.

Good buoyancy is especially important around wrecks and when multiple divers are trying to observe or photograph the same animals.

Give the groupers room, stay aware of the divers around you, and enjoy the show.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Our group will stay for two nights at the Hampton Inn & Suites Palm Beach Gardens.

The hotel provides a comfortable and convenient home base for our Jupiter diving weekend while keeping the American Pro group together throughout the trip.

Breakfast is included each morning with your hotel stay, making it easy to grab breakfast before heading to Jupiter for the day's diving.

Final room configurations, occupancy options, check-in information, and other hotel details will be provided before the trip.

WEATHER, CONDITIONS & WILDLIFE

All diving is weather and conditions dependent.

Kyalami's captain and crew have final authority regarding whether the boat operates and which dive sites are appropriate for the day's conditions.

Goliath Groupers are wild animals. Their presence, number, location, and behavior cannot be guaranteed.

Dive sites, schedules, number of dives, and other portions of the itinerary may change because of weather, sea conditions, currents, visibility, wildlife activity, charter operations, or other circumstances outside American Pro Diving Center's control.

Safety always comes first.
