Key Largo Wreck & Advanced Open Water Weekend
November 12–14, 2027
Finish the American Pro Diving Center 2027 Dive Travel season where some of Florida's best diving meets the next step in your training—Key Largo!
Our November trip is built around wreck diving and PADI Advanced Open Water. We'll return to Key Largo, stay at Marina Del Mar Resort & Marina, and dive with Key Largo Dive Center for a weekend focused on deeper sites, famous wrecks, and advancing your skills as a diver.
This trip is designed for two groups of divers:
Open Water Divers who are ready to complete their PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification, and already-advanced divers who simply want to join us for a weekend of great Key Largo wreck diving.
You don't have to be taking the course to come along.
If you joined us for our reef weekend in July, this is also the perfect next step:
Get certified → Dive the reefs → Build experience → Go Advanced → Dive the wrecks.
THE WEEKEND
Friday, November 12 — Arrival & Check-In
Travel to Key Largo, check into Marina Del Mar Resort & Marina, get settled, and meet up with the American Pro group.
Friday evening gives everyone time to relax, grab dinner, prepare equipment, and review the weekend's dive plan.
Divers completing PADI Advanced Open Water will need to have all required eLearning and pre-trip coursework completed before beginning the training dives.
Saturday, November 13 — Advanced & Wreck Diving
We'll head out with Key Largo Dive Center for our first day of diving.
Our goal for the weekend is to concentrate on Key Largo's deeper and wreck-oriented sites while incorporating the required training dives for divers completing their Advanced Open Water certification.
Depending on charter schedules, weather, sea conditions, and site availability, we'll target dives appropriate for the group's certification and training goals.
Already Advanced certified?
No classroom course required—you can simply enjoy the diving.
After the day's dives, we'll head back to Marina Del Mar and have the evening to enjoy Key Largo.
Sunday, November 14 — More Diving & Departure
We'll return to Key Largo Dive Center for another day on the water.
Advanced Open Water students will continue working through their required Adventure Dives while our certified Advanced divers enjoy another opportunity to explore Key Largo's wrecks and deeper dive sites.
After Sunday's diving, we'll wrap up the weekend and head home—closing out American Pro's 2027 travel season with a great weekend underwater.
Exact charter times, number of dives, and dive sites will be confirmed closer to departure.
THE WRECK DIVING
Key Largo is home to some of the most recognizable wreck diving in the Florida Keys.
Our goal is to make this weekend distinctly different from our July reef trip by focusing on wrecks and deeper recreational dive sites whenever conditions and charter scheduling allow.
Potential sites may include some of the wrecks that have made Key Largo famous, but specific wrecks cannot be guaranteed.
Key Largo Dive Center will select appropriate sites based on:
- Weather and sea conditions
- Current
- Visibility
- Diver certification and experience
- Training requirements
- Charter logistics
- Site availability
The objective is simple: give our divers a great weekend of Key Largo wreck diving while keeping every dive appropriate for the people making it.
PADI ADVANCED OPEN WATER
Want to earn your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification during the trip?
This weekend is designed to give eligible Open Water Divers the opportunity to do exactly that.
Advanced Open Water isn't about sitting in a classroom and taking another big exam. It's about diving, gaining experience, trying new things, and becoming a more capable and confident diver.
The course consists of five Adventure Dives, including:
- Deep Adventure Dive
- Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive
- Three additional Adventure Dives selected as part of the course plan
We'll build the final training schedule around the diving available during the weekend and the conditions we encounter.
Required PADI eLearning and knowledge-development work must be completed according to the instructions provided by American Pro Diving Center before the applicable training dives.
ALREADY ADVANCED? COME DIVE WITH US!
You absolutely do not need to be an Advanced Open Water student to join this trip.
If you're already Advanced certified—or hold a higher certification—come for the wreck diving.
You'll be traveling with the same American Pro group and diving from the same charter while our students complete their training requirements.
That makes this trip both a certification weekend and a regular American Pro dive trip.
WHO IS THIS TRIP FOR?
This trip is a great fit for:
- Open Water Divers ready to earn PADI Advanced Open Water
- Advanced Open Water Divers
- Rescue Divers
- Divemasters
- Instructors
- Experienced recreational divers who love wrecks
- Divers looking to become more comfortable with deeper profiles
- Anyone who enjoyed our July Key Largo trip and wants to take the next step
Some dive sites may have certification, depth, or experience requirements.
Divers may be divided into appropriate groups depending on certification level, training status, experience, and the selected dive sites.
WRECK DIVING VS. WRECK PENETRATION
A wreck-diving trip does not automatically mean entering wrecks.
Our dives are recreational dives and will remain within the limits of each diver's certification, training, equipment, and planned profile.
No diver should enter an overhead environment or penetrate a wreck beyond the limits of their training.
Advanced Open Water certification by itself is not wreck-penetration training.
There's plenty to see on and around Key Largo's wrecks without entering an overhead environment.
ACCOMMODATIONS
Our group will stay for two nights at Marina Del Mar Resort & Marina in Key Largo.
Marina Del Mar gives us a convenient waterfront home base for the weekend and keeps the American Pro group together throughout the trip.
The standard package will be based on the room arrangements established for our group.
Final room types, occupancy options, check-in information, hotel amenities, and other accommodation details will be provided before the trip.

CERTIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
There will be two primary ways to participate:
Advanced Open Water Student
You must hold a qualifying Open Water Diver certification and meet all PADI course prerequisites.
Certified Advanced Diver
Divers joining the trip without taking the course should hold Advanced Open Water or an equivalent certification appropriate for the planned dives.
Certification alone does not guarantee participation in every dive. Individual sites may require additional experience or have depth and condition considerations.
American Pro Diving Center and Key Largo Dive Center reserve the right to determine whether a particular dive is appropriate for an individual's certification, experience, equipment, and comfort level.
REQUIRED & RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT
Divers should bring properly maintained equipment appropriate for deeper boat and wreck diving.
Recommended equipment includes:
- BCD
- Regulator
- Dive computer
- Mask and fins
- Appropriate exposure protection
- Surface marker buoy (SMB)
- Reel or spool
- Audible signaling device
- Dive light
- Backup light
- Certification card
Advanced Open Water students may have additional equipment requirements based on their selected Adventure Dives.
Rental equipment is available for an additional charge and should be arranged in advance.
RESERVATIONS & PAYMENT
Space will be limited by our Marina Del Mar room block, Key Largo Dive Center charter capacity, and available training spaces.
A deposit will be required to secure your reservation.
The deposit amount, payment schedule, final-payment deadline, cancellation policy, and participant-substitution terms will be provided once final arrangements are confirmed.
Advanced Open Water training spaces may be more limited than general trip availability due to instructor-to-student ratios.
A reservation is not considered secured until the required deposit has been received.
WEATHER & DIVE CONDITIONS
All diving is weather and conditions dependent.
Key Largo Dive Center's captain and crew have final authority regarding whether the boat operates and which dive sites are appropriate for the day's conditions.
Specific wrecks cannot be guaranteed.
Dive sites, schedules, number of dives, training dives, and other portions of the itinerary may change because of weather, sea conditions, currents, visibility, charter operations, diver qualifications, or other circumstances outside American Pro Diving Center's control.
If conditions require a change of site, Advanced Open Water training dives may also be rearranged to accommodate the available diving.
Safety always comes first.
END THE SEASON ON A HIGH NOTE
We started the 2027 travel season with an international adventure in Belize.
We chased turtles in Palm Beach, explored Key Largo's reefs, headed offshore for wrecks in Panama City, dove with Goliath Groupers in Jupiter, and spent a weekend camping and diving at Vortex Spring.
Now we're heading back to the Keys to finish the year with wrecks, deeper diving, and the next step in your scuba journey.
If you're Open Water certified, come earn your PADI Advanced Open Water certification.
If you're already Advanced, grab your gear and come dive the wrecks with us.
